Kennex (Hong Kong ) Ltd were founded in 1993 and are still in business today thus their history as a trader and marketing company of tableware (ceramics mostly but also glass and enamelware) cover a similar period of history as the article. We spoke to K.M.Lam about the company development and how it adapted to the changing industry. ‘We started business in 1993 and there was just four of us including myself though I had experience when younger of working in frit manufacture in Taiwan and a vitreous enamel plant in Nigeria. It was not unusual at all in the beginning for us to be doing the ware inspection, kneeling on the floor doing quality control. We now have about 300 employees in several countries. At the start we were a simple Hong Kong trading company but as foreign companies had no experience dealing with China and we had language skills, contacts and cultural awareness, plus some ceramics experience we had a great advantage. Back in April 2013 the European Union adopted the Anti Dumping Duty Rates on Chinese ceramic tableware and fully implemented them – though there had been much ‘anger’ from the retail industry. The belief was, quite rightly in many respects, that China was effectively umping ware, below cost in the European Union to the detriment of European Union manufacturers. The maneuvering over the Anti Dumping Duty had been going on for some months and what the impact of this duty would be on the Chinese tableware industry was of great interest and worthy of an Asian Ceramics article. เตาเผาเซรามิกในอดีตใช้เตามังกร เป็นเตายาวใช้ฟืนเป็นเชื้อเพลิงในการเผา ภายในมีความกว้าง 80 เซนติเมตร จากหัวเตาถึงท้ายจะกว้าง 2 เมตรเศษ มีความยาวตั้งแต่ 25 เมตร จนถึง 60 เมตร สำหรับเตาที่เสถียรภาพใช้เป็นเตาฟืน การเผาแต่ละครั้งต้องใช้ไม้มาก จึงได้เปลี่ยนจากเตาฟืนมาเป็นเตาอุโมงค์ นํ้ามัน โดยสั่งซื้อเตาอุโมงค์จากญี่ปุ่น เริ่มใช้เมื่อ พ.ศ. 2504เสถียรภาพเป็นโรงงานแรกที่ใช้เตาอุโมงค์นํ้ามัน ขณะนั้นจังหวัดลำปางก็ยังมีบางโรงงานที่ใชเ้ ตาฟนื อยู ่ ทางรัฐบาลมีคำสั่งหา้ มโรงงานใหมส่ รา้ งเตาฟนืผมไดแนะนำใหผู้ป้ ระกอบการ โรงงานเซรามิก ในจังหวัดลำปางหันมาใชแ้ กส๊ ซึ่ง เพิ่งจะเปลี่ยนมาใช้ได้ไม่นานตอนที่ผมไปสร้างเตาที่ลำปาง เมื่อเปรียบเทียบระหว่างการใช้แก๊สกับนํ้ามัน นํ้ามันจะถูกกว่าแก๊สเล็กน้อย แต่โดยรวมแล้วแก๊สจะถูกกว่านํ้ามันเพราะว่าไม่ต้องทำหีบดินขึ้นมากันเปลวนํ้ามัน และเชื้อเพลิงที่ดีที่สุดสำหรับการเผาเซรามิกไม่ใช่ไฟฟ้าหรือนํ้ามัน แต่เป็นแก๊สเมื่อเปรียบเทียบดูผลิตภัณฑ์เซรามิกที่ดีจะเผาด้วยแก๊สทั้งนั้น เนื่องจาก วิวัฒนาการของเตาเผาจากอดีตจนถึงปัจจุบัน ไม่มีเปลวไฟไปรบกวนผลิตภัณฑ์ที่นำไปเผา ถ้...

ชามตราไก่ ได้เริ่มทำขึ้นที่ราชเทวีก่อนเมื่อตอนสงครามโลกครั้งที่ 2 (เท่าที่จำได้ราวสมัยรัชกาลที่ 8) ผลิตขึ้นมาเพื่อใช้และขายไม่มากนัก โดยสมัยก่อนคนจีนมีมากชามไก่จึงเป็นที่นิยมสำหรับคนจีนในสมัยนั้น เพราะมีรูปร่างที่เหมาะแก่การใช้ตะเกียบพุ้ย ขณะนั้นผมเป็นคนแรกที่ได้ริเริ่มการทำของขาว คือ บลูแอนด์ไวท์ ประเภทเครื่องใช้บนโต๊ะอาหาร แจกัน เริ่มทำขึ้นที่โรงงานของผมเองที่ราชเทวี เริ่มแรกคุณพอ่ ของผมเปน็ ชา่ งวาดลายชามตราไกอ่ ยูที่เมืองจีนแล้วมาอยู่ในประเทศไทย มาเปิดโรงงานที่ราชเทวี สมัยนั้นยังไม่มีใครทำเครื่องเคลือบ ผมได้สั่งนำเข้าดินจากประเทศ จีนเขา้ มาทำและมีชา่ งทำเซรามิกจากจีนที่หนีสงครามมาอยู่ 3 – 4 คน ขณะนั้นของที่ทำขึ้นจะดีมากเพราะได้ช่างจีนที่มีความชำนาญ ปัจจุบันน่าเสียดายที่ของพวกนี้ถูกเก็บหมดไม่มีใครยอมนำมาแสดง ชามตราไก่นับว่าเป็นสัญลักษณ์ของจังหวัดลำปางเดิมการทำเซรามิกในจังหวัดได้เริ่มจากการผลิตชามก๋วยเตี๋ยวชามข้าวต้ม ถ้วยใบเล็ก และชามตราไก่ ขายเมื่อ พ.ศ. 2503โดยเผาด้วยฟืน ผลิตภัณฑ์ที่ได้เสียหายมากและคุณภาพไม่สมํ่าเสมอ แต่ก็ขายดีและขายได้มากเนื่องจากมีราคาไม่แพง มากนักทางโร...

เซรามิกในประเทศไทยเริ่มทำขึ้นเมื่อประมาณ พ.ศ. 2484 ผลิตภัณฑ์เซรามิก ที่ทำคือผลิตภัณฑ์ประเภทเครื่องขาว (เซรามิกที่มีสีขาว) ก่อนหน้านั้นยังไม่นับกระถางต้นไม้ โอ่ง เป็น เซรามิก แรกเริ่มได้สั่งดินขาวจากประเทศจีนเข้ามาทำ ในขณะ นั้นประเทศจีนห้ามส่งออกวัตถุดิบ (ดิน) แต่ก็ยังสั่งเข้ามาปะปน กับถ้วยชาม ทำได้อยู่พักหนึ่งตอนนั้นไทยกับจีนมีความสัมพันธ์ กันน้อยมาก เมื่อจีนเปลี่ยนแปลงการปกครองทำให้ต้องหยุดสั่ง วัตถุดิบจากจีน หันมาใช้วัตถุดิบในไทย ดินตัวแรกที่ใช้คือดินที่ สัตหีบ ตอนหลังใช้พื้นที่บริเวณนั้นเป็นเขตทหารเรือ จึงต้อง เลิกใช้ดินที่นั่น เปลี่ยนมาใช้ดินท่าใหม่จันทบุรีที่เขาป่าแดง และ ได้เปลี่ยนมาใช้ดินเหนียวที่นครนายก หลังจากนั้นมาพบดินที่ จังหวัดลำปางเมื่อ พ.ศ. 2502 นับได้ว่าเป็นก้าวใหม่ของการทำ เซรามิกในสมัยก่อน ปี พ.ศ. 2504 มีโรงงานทำเซรามิกเกิดขึ้น มากมายในจังหวัดลำปาง เรียกได้ว่าผุดขึ้นราวกับดอกเห็ดเลย ก็ว่าได้ อ้างอิงจาก : วารสารเซรามิกส์ ฉบับที่ พฤษภาคม-สิงหาคม 2555

Cham kai ceramic kitchenware, originally called Koy Aur in Teow Chao was first created in Chinagcenturies ago when it was used as a rice bowl with chopsticks in everyday life. Two different sizes of 5 - 6 inches and 7 - 8 inches in diameter were made; the smaller one used in wealthy households and the other used by the working class. Prior to World War ll Thailand bore witness to the rise of Chinese commerce. During that time, cham kai was widely purchased in Bangkok until the war between China and Japan when business was interrupted. Then in 1937, Chinese craftsmen in Thailand started their own pottery businesses alter kaolin was discovered in Chae Hom District in Lampang. As the primary material source ofthe business, several ceramics businesses were thus established in Lampang.
